On the 13th of August, 2008, the 3rd Student Council hosted Olympic Week Part II! Comprising various games such as basketball, handball, badminton, dodgeball and table tennis, the event was a fun one full of joy and laughter! In light of the 2008 Olympics, the 3rd Student Council hosted their very own version of this prestigious event. Taking place on the 6th of August 2008, we held the first part of Olympics Week, the Fun Games which saw the Year 5 cohort pitting their skills against each other in silly fun-filled and enjoyable games First up, was the Sack Race. The Stocking Game Next was the Stocking Game. The two representatives from the team were to remove the stocking from the other person by vigorously swinging the tennis ball round and round using his head. It was indeed highly amusing to watch. Gearing up for the Three Legged Race Rushing to the Finish Line Having lots of Laughs Lots of smiles at the end of the day So do come down for the second part of Olympics Week held on the 13th of August as classes battle it out in the Sports Games! The class of 5/6.14 claimed the keenly contested Anglolympics Soccer title after defeating 5/6.3 in Friday's final (pictured). .14 beat out competition from 14 other classes that took part in this event. Charles Leong of 6.8 takes a penalty in the 3rd/4th place match The class of 5/6.1 finished third after winning a penalty shootout against 5/6.8.

On Saturday, the 5th of April 2008, the World Swim Against Malaria was held, with the aim of seeing over one million people combat malaria by swimming. Funds raised by participants would go towards purchasing long-lasting insecticidal mosquito nets. At ACS (Independent), the Student Council, together with TYR, organised a swim that saw over 300 participants swimming 9000 laps in 9 hours. These participants completed one lap (50 m) of the swimming pool for every dollar pledged to them. Our Principal Dr Ong with SEA Games gold medalist Zach Ong, who participated in the swim Along the way, the participants in the swim set a record for the Singapore Book of Records of most number of laps completed in 6 hours: 7026. One of the swimmers, Jim Seet, also completed the amazing feat of swimming 400 laps on the day! The Student Council organised two concerts as part of efforts to fulfil the wish of Celine, a 10 year old girl with spinal muscular atrophy, for a specially adapted tricycle. The morning saw a specially organised, "High School Musical"-themed, concert for Celine's and her friends and family. Celine with her tricycle In the evening, "Wish Upon A Star", a fundraising concert, was held to help fulfil Celine's wishes. The events were done in conjunction with the Make A Wish Foundation, Singapore.

Anglolympics Frisbee was held today at the Astroturf. The class of 5.14/6.14 emerged as champions, defeating 5.2/6.2 3-2 in the final. Meanwhile, 5.6/6.6 finished 2nd runners-up, with 5.8/6.8 claiming 4th place.

Anglolympics soccer was held this Friday for the Year 5 classes. Despite the event not being included in the overall standings, it still received a good turnout. On a fine afternoon, the class of 5.8 emerged champions, defeating 5.10 in the final. The class of 5.6 finished third.
